What is ‘Good’ Design?
Is it subjective? Is it a science?

Any designer will tell you that good design follows the principles of design.
It considers things like contrast, balance & hierarchy. This allows whatever is being designed to be structurally sound.
The goal is to communicate, so it needs to be practical.
& while this is true, the intention & execution together is what separates something good from something great.
You must learn the rules to break them.
Anyone can learn design & create visually appealing work, but some work you resonate with more than others.
Some design work feels more authentic.
Why is that?
It’s the intention behind it- the idea, the concept, the story.
This is true for good branding as well. You can’t have a strong brand without a strong purpose.
As a brand designer, I’m always searching for that balance between story & function.
It’s helpful in my process to start with a strategy & research session followed by an in-depth creative direction plan.
All of this is to help create something that is well executed, with the intention to back it up.
Intention + Execution = Good Design
